Wester Ross
IMA prepared sketch designs for the development of three visitor information shelters at key entry points to Wester Ross; Achnasheen, Lochcarron and Braemore. The shelters were designed to improve the sense of place and visitor orientation on arrival in Wester Ross and to promote local attractions and amenities.
The shelters were to be located on sites to complement the North Coast 500 route and the Wester Ross Biosphere Reserve. The competition was launched by the Highland Council and managed by Public Contracts Scotland.
IMA proposed that the 3 shelters became destinations in themselves and together the route between all 3 shelters formed a 2 day walking tour of the area.
The most ambitious of the 3 shelters was at Braemore which combined multiple folded shelters with a 20m long concrete wall and extensive new landscaping.
IMA also designed the publicity/graphics for the shelters as part of a co-ordinated tourist campaign with Scottish Tourism.
