5 Norwich Street

IMA were appointed by a private client to design a comprehensive refurbishment of 5 Norwich Street, an eight storey building in 2018.

Originally built in 1988 and designed by Terry Farrell Architects in the Post Modernist style ,  the building had reached the end of its servicable life and required fundamental refurbishment to bring it up to 21st Century standards.

The building is not listed but lies immediately adjacent to The Chancery Lane Conservation area within the City of London boundary.

The new proposals included :

The removal of the entire front and rear façades to the original concrete structural frame and their replacement with high performance curtain walling. The opening up to Norwich Street of the ground floor entrance which had been concealed behind ancillary ground floor meeting rooms. The enlargement of the 5th and sixth floor plates.

The addition of a new 7th and 8th floor offices set back from the main façade to provide a further 8,000 sq ft of office space.

The original building was 35,980 sq ft NIA, the remodelled building is now 45, 980 sq ft NIA, an increase in floor space of almost 14%.
